Larceny Rates
Larceny is defined as the unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession, or constructive possession, of another person. Utah's larceny rate in 2005 was 2,919 per 100,000, a 6.7% decrease compared with 2004. Utah's larceny rate in 2005 was the lowest since 1977.

Larceny is one crime where Utah's rate is historically higher than the national rate. Not once in the past 40 years has Utah's rate been lower than the national rate. Since larceny accounts for nearly three-quarters of all index crime, Utah's total index crime rate is generally at or above the national rate.
Adult Larceny Arrests
Utah's adult arrest rate for larceny was 513.7 per 100,000 of those over 18 years of age.  This represents a 10.3% increase compared with 2004.
Juvenile Larceny Arrests
During 2005, there were 1,466 juvenile arrests for larceny per 100,000 of those aged 10 to 17.  This represents a 10.8% increase compared with 2004.
*Juvenile arrest rates should not be compared to adult arrest rates as they are based upon a much narrower population group.
