Property crimes include burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Utah's property crime rate in 2005 was 3,869, a 5.3% decrease over 2004. Since its peak in 1995, Utah's property crime rate has largely been decreasing. The rate in 2001 was the lowest since 1969, and the 2005 rate was lower than the 2001 rate.
Utah's property crime rate is driven by our higher than average larceny rate. Utah's rate and the national rate have followed a parallel course over the past 40 years. The gap between the national rate and Utah's rate has been narrowing. |

Utah's adult arrest rate for property crimes was 592 per 100,000 of those over 18 years of age. This represents a 9.9% increase from 2004. |

During 2005, there were 1,654 juvenile arrests for property crimes per 100,000 of those aged 10 to 17. This represents a 10.9% increase compared with 2004.
*Juvenile arrest rates should not be compared to adult arrest rates as they are based upon a much narrower population group. |
