Total Robbery Rate
Robbery is defined as the taking, or attempting to take, anything of value under confrontational circumstances from the control, custody, or care of another person by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear of immediate
harm. Utah's robbery rate in 2005 was 44.3 per 100,000, a 14.3% decrease compared with 2004. Since a minor peak in 1997, Utah's robbery rate had been decreasing. Utah's robbery rate is at one of its lowest points since 1989.

Although the national robbery rate has fallen dramatically, Utah's rate is nearly three times lower than the national rate. Utah's rate trended down in 2005 while the nation's rate trended up in 2005.
Adult Robbery Arrests
Utah's adult arrest rate for robbery was 16.0 per 100,000 of those over 18 years of age.  This represents a 23.6% decrease compared with 2004.
Juvenile Robbery Arrests
During 2005, there were 15.3 juvenile arrests for robbery per 100,000 of those aged 10 to 17.  This represents a 7.9% decrease over 2004.
*Juvenile arrest rates should not be compared to adult arrest rates as they are based upon a much narrower population group.
